The conference in Astana will become a platform for discussing practical steps ahead. On September 29, the C5+1 SI Conference dedicated to the development of artificial intelligence and digital cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and the USA began its work in Astana. The two-day meeting will bring together representatives of government agencies, technology companies, and the expert community to discuss joint projects, investments, and digital infrastructure development. C5+1 is a platform of cooperation between the five Central Asian countries - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan with the United States. The format has been operating since 2015 and serves as a dialogue mechanism on issues of economy, security and regional cooperation. It allows countries to agree on priorities and develop joint initiatives involving government and business. The conference in Astana will focus on the technological direction of this partnership. The conference will discuss the development of advanced artificial intelligence systems, digital infrastructure and data processing centers, strengthening cyber security and expanding cooperation with American technology companies. The practical value of such a dialogue for Kazakhstan lies in the ability to attract investments and technological expertise, develop computing infrastructure, and expand the access of domestic companies to international partners and markets. Cooperation in these areas creates conditions for the introduction of artificial intelligence into the economy and public services, training of specialists and increasing the protection of digital systems. These priorities are confirmed in the joint statement of the intentions of the C5+1 countries in the field of economic cooperation. The document envisages support for IT startups, cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence research and education, development of digital services, telecommunication infrastructure and data processing centers. Today's meeting is a continuation of the agreements reached at the highest level. In November 2025, the C5+1 summit was held in Washington with the participation of the heads of Central Asian states and the US President. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev participated in the meeting on behalf of Kazakhstan. As a result of the visit of the head of state to the USA, 29 agreements with a total amount of about 17 billion dollars were signed, covering the fields of industry, energy, digitalization, education and innovations. Among the technological directions are the implementation of satellite communication, the development of intelligent transport systems, digital payments and educational solutions based on artificial intelligence. In particular, during the visit in November, a memorandum aimed at introducing Direct to Cell technology was signed. This direction of cooperation is intended to expand access to communication in areas not covered by land mobile networks. In the field of education, documents were signed with American universities and technological partners, including OpenAI. The conference in Astana will become a platform for discussing practical steps ahead: participants will present digital initiatives of the countries of the region, exchange experience and consider new partnership opportunities. For Kazakhstan, this is an opportunity to combine national tasks of digital development with technologies, investments and competences of international partners.
