💬 What happens to your assets when you top up your crypto card Behind the usual payment with a crypto card there may be different mechanisms for working with assets. In some models, already when the card is topped up, the cryptocurrency actually goes to the balance of the issuing company, and the user, instead of owning the asset, gets the right to demand its equivalent. ⚠️ This creates additional risks. In the event of problems or bankruptcy of the issuer, the user may become an ordinary creditor of the company. Additionally, in some jurisdictions, transferring cryptocurrency to a card may be considered a sale of an asset and create a tax liability before the money has even been spent. ⚙️ An alternative option is an account-linked model. In it, the cryptocurrency remains in the user’s account until the moment of purchase, and only the amount necessary for a specific payment is converted into fiat or stablecoin. This principle, for example, is used in the Binance Card architecture. Therefore, when choosing a crypto card, it is important to look not only at commissions, cashback and convenience, but also at what legally happens to the cryptocurrency after replenishing the card
